Slate is a porous, natural stone that needs to be sealed. We use an “invisible” water-based sealer that leaves the stone in its natural-looking state.

Slate is beautiful, but is not our favorite flooring material for several reasons. It tends to be brittle and can have sharp edges. We don’t install flooring, but have found that mortar and/or grout can react with the stone, producing muddy and inconsistent appearing grout lines. This is especially visible after sealer is applied.
