Surface Tension is a property, due to molecular forces, by which the surface film of all liquids tends to bring the contained volume into a form having the least superficial area. The purpose of using chemicals to aid in cleaning is to break the surface tension and remove soils without causing harm to the surface (and in some instances, further enhance the surface’s appearance).
