Ways to Control Odors in Your Facility Services
Fighting malodors in your facility can be frustrating and we can help! Odor control methods vary slightly, but typically employ one or more of the following approaches:
Eliminating Odor at its Source
This is the most effective way to eliminate foul odors within your facility. When you treat (or eliminate the source) of the odor, you get rid of the odor.
Clean, Disinfect and Treat with a Good Enzyme Product
Bacteria-causing odors may be eliminated (or drastically reduced) through use of the following methods:
Cleaning (removing bacteria), disinfecting (killing bacteria), or applying enzymatic products (that digest bacteria). For example, use of a strong enzymatic product will work extremely well to combat uric acid odor in restrooms.
Absorb, Neutralize and Masking Will Also Help
Solid materials (such as baking soda or charcoal media) are often used to capture and hold odor molecules. Typically, absorbents are used where odor molecules are airborne and pass through a confined space, like an air duct. Charcoal (carbon) is an example of an absorbent.
Encapsulation (often used in carpet care), is a process that involves chemically altering offensive odor molecules by encapsulating, or trapping them. Complex odors like smoke respond well to this method. Chemicals that encapsulate, bond with the malodor to create a new, odorless molecule. Products that neutralize are called odor counteractants.
With this technique, the odor isn’t changed or removed, but is replaced in our olfactory sense by a more pleasant scent. Deodorizers and air fresheners are examples of products that mask odors.
